Yuzuru Hanyu's "Notte Stellata 2026" to be held in Miyagi next March, 15 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake. "I hope we can come together as one and create hope."
It was announced on the 11th that the ice show "Towa Pharmaceutical presents Yuzuru Hanyu Notte Stellata 2026," hosted by two-time Olympic gold medalist in men's figure skating, Yuzuru Hanyu (31), will be held in March 2026. The show has been held in Hanyu's hometown of Miyagi since 2023, and this will be the fourth time. It will be held at the Sekisui Heim Super Arena (Grandi 21) from March 7th to 9th.
"Notte sellata" means "starry sky" in Italian, and is the program Hanyu performed at the exhibition at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, where he won back-to-back gold medals. The show's title was chosen after Hanyu himself felt hope when he saw the beautiful starry sky on a night when the power was out following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
2026 marks 15 years since the earthquake. Hanyu commented through the organizers, "I want people to feel hope, even if just while we're performing, or while they're watching Notte Stellata. I want to be the catalyst for that. That's what Notte Stellata is all about. Together with my fellow skaters, I hope we can transcend nationalities and become one circle, and create a single hope. I feel it's important to convey to children who were born after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and to children who are too young to remember it, how terrible the disaster was, and what we've learned because of it."
