Japan Gymnastics Team Men's and Women's Uniforms Announced - Aiko Sugihara Says "These uniforms are full of cuteness and beauty" and Shinnosuke Oka Says "They're bright and I like them"
On the 12th, the Japan Gymnastics Association held a press conference at the Ajinomoto National Training Center in Tokyo and announced the uniforms for the Japanese men's and women's national teams that will compete in the World Championships (October 19-25, Jakarta).
The men's uniforms are available in two colors, red and blue, with the theme of "tradition," which evokes the image of athletes performing dynamic routines, and "lightning," which expresses the acrobatics and elegance of their routines. Shinnosuke Oka (Tokushukai), who won three gold medals at last summer's Paris Olympics, said, "The design is bright and I like it. I want to do my best and perform a dynamic routine," while Daiki Hashimoto (Nippon Life/Central Sports), who will win two gold medals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, said, "The entire venue will be dark at the World Championships, but the uniforms are bright and will stand out even in the venue. It will help us to further promote Japanese gymnastics."
The women's uniform comes in two colors, pink and blue, and has the theme "Frontier." It expresses the challenge of uncharted territory and symbolizes athletes taking on a new era. Aiko Sugihara (TRyAS), competing in her second World Championships since 2017, said enthusiastically, "It's comfortable to wear, and I feel like it brings out my strength and flexibility. It's got lots of sparkle, and is a cute, beautiful piece. I hope I can express strength and beauty at the World Championships."
