"In the end, it's women" and "men are superior in everything" - Shocking NHK footage from the Showa era: "If this is what NHK is like, then what about private broadcasters..."
On the 24th, NHK's "Asaichi" aired a segment titled "Time Trip to Showa and Heisei," in which the opinions of housewives in the Showa era and the opinions of men were introduced using TV programs from that time. Daikichi of the comedy duo Hanamaru Daikichi "Probably causes controversy," he warned.
On this day, the program will use nostalgic footage to introduce the trends of the Showa and Heisei eras. The predecessor to "Asaichi" was a morning information program called "Hello, Dear Wife" in 1966, hosted by news anchor Kenji Suzuki. It was a viewer participation program in which housewives were invited into the studio to talk.
The program also showed footage of interviews with men on the street, asking them what they really thought at the time. They said things that would be unthinkable today, such as, "Men are better at everything," and "They say we have equality, but women are women after all."
Daikichi was surprised by the men's shocking remarks, saying, "This is all NHK footage. If this is what NHK is like, I'm quite worried about what private broadcasters are like." He told himself, "But it's evidence of the times, and the present is based on this history..."
Daikichi then looked back on his own family at the time when the Equal Employment Opportunity Law for Men and Women was enacted, saying that he had "a father who didn't work very much" and "a mother who worked a lot of part-time work," but he also recalled that there "was not much difference" in the salaries of his father, who only worked occasionally, and his mother, who worked a lot.
