Hanshin Tigers manager Fujikawa "sat with Yamamoto Yoshinobu for seven hours straight" - Udo is surprised by the secret story of his thoughtfulness "immediately" after his retirement

The MBS talk show "Chatty Little Restaurant Yumiko," hosted by Yumiko Udo as the proprietress, aired on the 6th, with Hanshin Tigers manager Kyuji Fujikawa making a guest appearance.

It was his first time meeting Udo since the Hanshin vs. Dodgers MLB preseason game at Tokyo Dome in March of this year. They exchanged greetings in the corridor after the game, and Fujikawa reflected, "After that, (Yamamoto) Yoshinobu came and we talked. Yoshinobu also had a great time in his final game with the Dodgers. It was a season where I felt the bond between people."

Fujikawa retired from active play at the end of the 2020 season. "When I retired, I wanted to devote myself to something. I was talking about how I liked pottery, and then I found out that Yoshinobu is from Bizen City (Okayama Prefecture), so he introduced me to him. We were such good friends that we would sit together in front of the kiln for six or seven hours," he said, revealing his connection with Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Udou was surprised and exclaimed, "What?!" "It was three or four years ago that (Yoshinobu) asked me, 'Koji, how are you doing?' right after (his retirement). It's strange to be in front of a fire, isn't it? You can sit there for a long time without saying a word," he recalled with a gentle smile.

He also said, "When I think about it, the situation (in front of the kiln) is very similar to what it was like inside the bench. It was like the coach watching practice." He added, "The parts where he says, 'Stop it now,' or 'Put the firewood in now,' are similar. As a coach, I remembered that scene this season and how similar it is."
